John of Kronstadt's visits to Vyatka province in the light of new archival sources
At the beginning of the XX century. The Vyatka province was visited by a famous priest, Archpriest of St. Andrew's Kronstadt Cathedral John Sergiev, who was popularly nicknamed "Kronshtadtsky". He was one of the most popular church figures among the people. During the revolution of 1905–1907, fr. St. John's became a landmark for the Russian monarchist and patriotic movement. His arrival in Russian cities, including Vyatka province, attracted the attention of the local community. John of Kronstadt was associated with various strata of the Vyatka community: the clergy, the intelligentsia, the merchants, the burghers, the peasantry. As a member of the monarchist movement, John of Kronstadt maintained contacts with the Vyatka People's Monarchist Party. In connection with the appearance of the Ioannite sect in Vyatka province, John of Kronstadt sent letters and telegrams condemning the activities of people who used his name to recruit people into the religious communities of the Ioannites. This article aims to introduce previously unknown archival documents into scientific circulation, which reflect the activities of Archpriest John Sergiev in the Vyatka province. The documents are kept in the Central State Historical Archive of St. Petersburg. The most valuable of these are letters and telegrams sent to fr. John in connection with his visits to the Vyatka province. The article concludes that a certain circle of admirers of John of Kronstadt had formed in Vyatka province even before his arrival in the province. It was also established that the charitable institutions of Vyatka were interconnected, including in connection with the veneration of Fr. St. John's.
