POPULATION STATUS AND BEHAVIOUR OF INDIAN PEACOCK IN RURAL AREAS OF JASRANA DISTRICTS OF DIDWANA KUCHAMAN
The Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus), India's national bird, exhibits a complex relationship with rural landscapes. Recent studies indicate significant population increase across rural India, contrasting with declines in some other avian species. This trend is attributed to the species' remark able synanthropic adaptation. Peafowl thrive in mosaics of agricultural fields (especially crops like groundnut, millet, pulses), fallow land, village groves, water bodies (canals, ponds, wells), and scrub forest patches commonly found in rural settings.
