Circularity-driven Design: A unified DfX framework for embedding sustainability in early design phases
To support companies in complying with the European Commission’s requirements outlined in Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, product design reassessment, with a strong emphasis on circularity principles, is essential. Currently, standardized methodologies to guide companies in achieving sustainable goals during the design phase, as well as a clearly defined pathway for regulatory compliance are missing. This emphasizes the need for a flexible and evidence-based approach applied across diverse products and industries. The proposed methodology addresses these shortcomings by employing a unified DfX framework combined with a circularity assessment. To validate the framework’s practicability, a cutting-stone machine will serve as use-case.
