Structuring Systems Engineering Transformation: A three-step cycle of Transformation

Increasing complexity of systems resulting from innovative technologies necessitates the implementation of interdisciplinary approaches in engineering. In response to these challenges, companies are undergoing a transformation in their engineering approaches, either adopting Systems Engineering or enhancing their existing Systems Engineering implementation. This research paper presents a model of a three-stage cycle, which serves as a basic framework for Systems Engineering Transformation. The transformation steps are derived based on a systematic literature review and findings from practical insights in transformation projects. Finally, there is a critical discussion and a derivation of future research questions. The model proposed in this research offers transformation leaders a foundation for overarching planning and controlling of Systems Engineering Transformation based on organization-specific concretization.
