The Lateral Lifeline: Awake Flexible Video Bronchoscope-guided Intubation for Nape of Neck Trauma
Abstract Penetrating neck injuries, especially with the weapon still embedded in the neck, pose significant challenges for airway management. These injuries are associated with risks to major blood vessels and vital structures, complicating intubation due to restricted neck mobility. This case report describes the management of a patient with a screwdriver (assault weapon) embedded in the posterior neck. The patient required emergency surgery to remove the weapon, and the airway was secured using an awake flexible video bronchoscope.
