Improving Alertness through Verticalization in Severe Hypoactive Delirium: A Case Study in Long-Term Care Facilities
Verticalization rapidly improved alertness in three long-term care patients with acute altered mental status, enabling return to baseline cognition. This simple bedside intervention may help distinguish hypoactive delirium from coma-like states, prevent unnecessary hospital transfers, and support comfort-focused care decisions in frail patients with major neurocognitive disorders.
