Delay Broadcast Based on Link Stability and Node Density in VNDN

Vehicular Named Data Networks (VNDNs), distinguished by their name-based forwarding and in-network caching mechanisms, have been extensively researched to tackle the challenges presented by high mobility and unstable link connectivity in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). However, the flooding of interest packets within VNDNs can lead to broadcast storms, which considerably diminish transmission efficiency. In this paper, we propose a delay-based interest forwarding mechanism, termed DBLiND, to mitigate the excessive broadcasting of interest packets. DBLiND leverages link stability, node density, and relative velocity to establish timers prior to the forwarding of interest packets. Additionally, when the location of the producer is known, the distance to the producer is also taken into account. Simulation results show significant reductions in average packet transmission delay and improved interest packet satisfaction rates.
