Dashboard Visualization Insights of the Academic Performance of Grade Level Students in the Asian Psychological Services & Assessment (APSA): Basis for Remediation——APSA Result Dashboard Visualization
This research project is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which aims to promote quality education to the basic education students at the university. To achieve this, the academic performance of the grade level students is further assessed through an internationally standardized test, the Asian Psychological Services & Assessment (APSA). The previous results of the conduct of this test were already presented in Excel format; however, it required more interactivity to drill down information needed for a more detailed data analysis. To address this, an interactive Microsoft Power BI Dashboard has been developed. The dataset consisted of the results from June 2016 – May 2024, excluding the 4 academic years 2019 - 2020, 2020 – 2021, 2021 – 2022, 2022 – 2023, when classes shifted to online mode of delivery due to Covid-19 restrictions. To provide detailed data visualization insights using Microsoft Power BI of the test outcome, the dataset was subjected to the Extract Load Transform (ETL) process. The extracted dataset was cleaned and standardized to provide more meaningful information. The dataset was then loaded into the dashboard. The dashboard provides an interactive graphical representations of, but are not limited to, the following information: the individual academic performance of a student in the three subject areas – English, Math, and Science, as well as the descriptor in each subject area – highly proficient, proficient, progressing towards standard and not meet standard; the overall performance of the students per academic year and the overall performance of the students in each subject area per academic year. This report, then, serves as a basis for determining students who still did not meet the standards as they are recommended to take summer remediation classes; however, this is not compulsory, as parents have the option to hire tutors. In the future, this dashboard will provide a detailed item analysis to further identify specific topics that need more emphasis to a group of students.
