Sizing of a solar PV system using Compass software: Application to borehole of the village of Koyli Alpha, Linguere district, Louga region, Senegal

Energy is the mainly cause of the development of the countries in the world. They come from different sources and among them, we do our choice in the renewable energy for bringing a solution in water pumping applied to Koyli Alpha borehole. In this document, the authors aim to compare two sizing methods of a solar PV system applied to the drilling of the village of Koyli Alpha. Here, we work according to the village's water needs with methods, one of which is intuitive and the other is numerical using Compass Lorentz software. The sizing results gave a PV size equal to 53,043 Wp compared to 38,675 Wp respectively for the intuitive and numerical methods. For the same water needs, the empirical method found 165 panels of 325 Wp to satisfy daily flow rates of 192 m3 and annual flow rates of 61,080 m3 for an average irridation of 4,263 kWh/m2/day. As for the optimization of the system, the results showed significant daily and annual flow rates respectively of 194 m3 and annual flow of 65,900 m3 for an average irridation value of 6.1 kWh/m2/day. This study revealed an advantage of the optimization method using the Compass software which caused a daily water surplus of 2 m3 and reduced the size of 46 panels. Indeed, the comparison showed a ratio of 0.75 kWc / m3 for the intuitive method against the numerical method using Compass Lorentz when the ratio is equaled to 0.59 kWc / m3. These ratios mean that quantity of solar panels is less in the numerical method sizing on Compass Lorentz software than intuitive method.
