On Track or Off Course? EU's PV Deployment Progress Towards a 100% Renewable Future
Over the last three years, PV installations have almost doubled to exceed 339 GWp in the European Union at the end of 2024. This already represents 45% of the 2030 target set in the Solar Strategy in 2022. However, the current political ambitions in the Member States of the European Union are not in line with the Solar Energy Strategy as the analysis of the 2024 update of the National Climate and Energy plans show. The average capacity per capita has increased from 620 Wp in 2023 to 770 Wp in 2024. Despite this positive trend, the European Union has still a long way to go to reach the needed solar photovoltaic capacity needed for a 100% renewable energy supply.
