Design and Implementation of an Iot Enabled Smart Robotic Wheelchair

Mobility aids such as wheelchairs are essential for millions of people with disabilities worldwide. However, only a fraction of those in need have access to these vital tools, and traditional wheelchairs often present significant challenges in terms of control and usability. To address these issues, this project aims to develop a comprehensive smart robotic wheelchair system that empowers users with greater control and independence. By integrating advanced features like Internet of Things (IoT), voice-based control, stand assist mechanism, and safety measures such as real-time obstacle detection and fall detection, the developed system seeks to create a unified platform that overcomes the limitations of existing mobility aids. The system is driven by PMDC motors controlled by a microcontroller board using a motor driver, enabling precise and adjustable movement. This approach not only explores the technical feasibility of merging diverse technologies into a single platform but also emphasizes usability, comfort, and the overall user experience. Compared to commercial alternatives, this design offers a cost-effective, feature-rich solution that ensures safer and more efficient mobility for users, especially those in resource-constrained environments.
