Advertising Higher Engineering Education Through a Competition
Today, it is quite common for universities to aim their dissemination and promotional activities at secondary schools, regardless of their region or specific area of interest. The goal of these activities is to promote the relevant focus of the university, but also to get in touch with its prospective students. One of such activities is carried out at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague under the name "Electrotechnical Olympiad" (EEO). It is a competition for secondary school students who want to show their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Therefore, the three phases of EO consist of an online test, submission of a presentation, and the final for the best ones. In this paper we provide an overview of the history of this event (its 13th round being prepared), including the impact on the organizing institution, an overview of the recent round and a unique summary of the opinions of the participants.
