Transformation of Urban Farming Using Digital Twin Technology: A Comprehensive Framework for Smart Cities
Urban farming is the most important part in the sustainable development of smart cities. Integrating the vertical farming approach in the urban areas provides a better solution to prevent food scarcity in the urban areas. However, to bring success to this approach there are ways to achieve it. The paper presents a novel approach using Digital Twin framework, which is designed to optimize urban farming by integrating the same with the vertical farm as well as the hydroponics. The data is collected in real time and is analyzed and predicted using machine learning algorithms. The system uses sensors and IoT devices to record the environmental and the operational data. These data are then processed in real time using cloud based digital twin. The digital twin is the one which imitates physical farming. The result of digital twin shows how there has been improvement in providing efficient resources and system scalability with the better yield of crop. The proposed approach offers a scalable solution for diverse urban farming applications, from small community gardens to large commercial farms, contributing to the broader smart city strategy of sustainable urban agriculture.
