AttendEase: An Online-Onsite Router-Based Mobile Application for Tracking Faculty and Student Attendance—Online-Onsite Student Attendance Checker

AttendEase is an Online-Onsite router-based mobile application designed to track the attendance of Faculty and Students alike. This system was designed to provide an efficient way of monitoring and tracking attendance to continuously promote quality education in the university which is aligned to the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal. This mobile application can only be accessed when the faculty and students are connected to the access point installed in the classroom. The faculty is required to login using the employee identification number and click the ‘Start Class’ button to start the session. Once the class has started, only then can the students mark themselves as present. This mobile application has a web-based counterpart which generates reports that show the summary of the attendance of both faculty and students. The mobile application was designed and implemented using the Android Operating System. The front-end design of the web-based application was built with ReactJS to facilitate a dynamic user interface, complemented by React Material-UI (React MUI) to achieve a modern and responsive design. The backend API was developed using Springboot Framework to ensure consistency across both mobile and web platforms. This application utilized Firebase as the database to provide a scalable and real-time cloud-based solution for data storage and management. The web-based and mobile application was tested to a group of students and faculty members of the department. The result of the System Usability Survey (SUS) Score was 75.9, which reflects an acceptable level of usability among its target users. While the results show significant potential to improve attendance accuracy and organized management, future enhancements of the current features are considered.
