Simulation of Lightning Response of Grounding Grids in Horizontal Multilayered Soils Based on Time-Domain Galerkin’s Moment Method

In this article, a novel electromagnetic field numerical model is proposed, which is based on the 1-D time-domain spatial Galerkin’s moment method, and is capable of accurately numerically simulating the lightning current distribution and lightning impulse response of the grounding grid embedded in a multilayered horizontally layered soil model, taking into account the ionization effect of the soil around the conductor of the grounding grid of the substation. Moreover, in order to improve the computational efficiency of this numerical model, the quasi-static complex image method and its closed-form time-domain Green’s function as well as the analytical form of the spatial 2-D line integral are introduced into the model.
