Surface coating effects on light and thermal induced degradation in metal halide perovskites

Perovskite stability has become an important area of focus which has improved clarity regarding the various degradation modes under different stimuli. Still, there are a lot of unexplored avenues that could be useful in understanding degradation mechanisms and improving stability. It is a common belief that photo/thermal-induced degradation initiates due to the surface desorption of volatile organic and HI/I2 vapors under light illumination. This work explores the change in degradation mechanism under light and heat when perovskite is covered with a thin fullerene (C60) layer. C60 could act as a barrier for the release of organic and HI/I2 vapors and thereby mitigate the degradation of perovskites. It is seen that C60 is prone to damage at high temperatures
