Photon Partitioning by Band Filling in Intermediate-Band Thermoradiative Diodes

We studied the output power density of the intermediate-band thermoradiative diode (IB-TRD) by taking into account the photon partitioning for transitions via the IB. Since the optimal IB position is away from the middle of the bandgap with increasing device temperature, the IB filling factor and the ratio of the absorptivities for the transitions via the IB depend on the temperature. When the IB shifts against the middle of the bandgap, the output power density of the IB-TRD becomes asymmetric for the partial absorptivities of the transitions via the IB.

Abstract

We studied the output power density of the intermediate-band thermoradiative diode (IB-TRD) by taking into account the photon partitioning for transitions via the IB. Since the optimal IB position is away from the middle of the bandgap with increasing device temperature, the IB filling factor and the ratio of the absorptivities for the transitions via the IB depend on the temperature. When the IB shifts against the middle of the bandgap, the output power density of the IB-TRD becomes asymmetric for the partial absorptivities of the transitions via the IB.
