Evaluation of Operating Bifacial PV Systems Under Real Conditions in Brazil
Brazil' cumulative PV capacity exceeded 50-GWp in 2024, with the country identified as among the fastest growing markets. Brazil' installations reflect the global trend in the shift toward bifacial PV modules, with 2/3 of the new power plants using this technology in tracking and non-tracking modes. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance and conditions of real, operating bifacial PV systems under the Brazil climate and installed ground conditions. The result has been to identify factors influencing the system performance, including the variations in albedo, the effects on rear-side temperatures, effects of ground covering compositions, and potential non-uniformities in both temperature and irradiance. The distinction of this study is that it provides evaluations, comparisons, and diagnoses of actual, operating bifacial power plants under their installed conditions. The objective has included recommending site maintenance investments relating to albedo improvement and inform of potential related degradation conditions.
