This study aims to trace the development of the patients’ physical examinations while presenting the historical milestones and paradigms of instrumental innovations. Summarising thousands of years of research and pathfinding on several pages is an ungrateful mission impossible; thus, I tune only a few notes in this endless symphony. Medical instruments experienced enormous development - their story was coupled with and presents the actual level of the historical body of knowledge as well. They reflect the science and technology level of the given era, and at the same time, they are founding the subsequent step of development of new generation technologies. Our senses (in organoleptic terms) are not to be excluded in our modern, instrument-dominated world since they can be used in a simple manner, are always at hand, determine our way of thinking and are extremely cost-effective.
