Effect of Chiral Structure on Electromagnetic Shielding Performance of Ferromagnetic Fiber Reinforced Metacomposites
ABSTRACT Fiber‐reinforced metacomposites with chiral architectures were fabricated using a layered configuration of functional fiber–quartz felt to investigate their electromagnetic shielding performance. The chiral design, inspired by traditional dual‐helix totem structures, enables electromagnetic attenuation through combined dielectric and magnetic loss mechanisms. The composites achieved high shielding effectiveness of up to 39 dB under 2 mm thickness and 0.346 wt.% filler content, with an effective bandwidth of 4.2 GHz (≥ 30 dB), fully covering the X‐band (8.2–12.4 GHz). This outstanding performance results from the synergistic integration of textile‐enabled chiral structuring with hybrid conductive–magnetic components, enhancing magneto‐electric coupling, cross‐polarization effects, and interfacial polarization. Due to the special chiral structure between conductive and magnetic materials, the electromagnetic wave propagation path is prolonged while their high electrical conductivity establishes additional conductive pathways to enhance dielectric loss. The conductive network modulates the local magnetic field distribution, induces magnetic domain fragmentation, thereby suppressing domain wall motion and increasing hysteresis loss. The proposed approach offers a scalable and lightweight solution for next‐generation applications such as 6G communication systems and radar base stations.
