The Research on Landfill Leachate Treatment Using Energy-efficient Technology: A Solution for Landfill Leachate Treatment at Da Mai Landfill, Thai Nguyen, Vietnam

Leachate is formed from the moisture content of waste, from the decomposition of organic matter in waste, from covering materials, seeping rainwater... Because landfilled waste is not classified at the source, the generated leachate has quite complex pollution components. In particular, fresh leachate has high to very high COD; BOD5; TN; TP, high color and other inorganic components. If leachate is not controlled and treated, it will leave very serious environmental consequences. To solve the problem of leachate pollution in Vietnam, this study was conducted to thoroughly treat pollutants by solutions to recover nitrogen in leachate and biological treatment. The results showed that the amount of MAP obtained was 1.43-2.34 g/liter of leachate. The anaerobic treatment efficiency reached 88.7% COD and the biogas collection efficiency was 0.345 liters/gCOD. Anoxic treatment using coal slag as a buffer material has a treatment efficiency of 46-55% COD; 50-60%TN; 54-65%TP. The leachate is then treated at a filter bed with Canna Lily grown on a substrate. With a retention time of 54 hours, the effluent meets the discharge standards QCVN 25-2011/BTNMT column B2.
