URBAN PLANNING: WORLD EXPERIENCE AND GLOBAL CHALLENGES
Given the modern challenges of sustainable development, the integration of environmental standards into territorial planning is extremely relevant to ensure a balance between economic development and environmental protection. In countries with a transition economy, such as Ukraine, there is a need to improve the methodological basis for the implementation of environmental standards at the regional level, which will create prerequisites for the preservation of natural resources and the provision of a quality environment for the population. The problem lies in the insufficient adaptability of the existing environmental standards to the needs of territorial Urban planning is one of the key tools of managing urban development, which determines the spatial organization of urban areas, the efficiency of land resource use, transport infrastructure and the quality of life of the population. At the current stage of development, the world has faced new challenges that significantly affect the urban environment: rapid urbanization, climate change, technological transformations, social inequality and the need to adapt to global crises such as pandemics and economic recessions. In this context, cities must implement innovative approaches to development in order to ensure sustainable development, increase competitiveness and improve the quality of life of citizens. Modern cities play a key role in the global economy, social development and ecological balance. However, the rapid process of urbanization is accompanied by numerous challenges, including the chaotic expansion of urban agglomerations, traffic congestion, the deterioration of the ecological situation, and the lack of effective sustainable development strategies. In the light of the international experience of urban planning, the need to develop innovative approaches to the formation of urban spaces that take into account global trends and local features becomes obvious. World experience demonstrates the diversity of urban planning models - from the compact development of urban areas in Western Europe to decentralized urban structures in the USA and Asia. At the same time, developing countries face the problems of informal urbanization, housing shortages and a lack of strategic vision for urban development. The use of digital technologies, "smart" planning, the integration of environmental solutions and the development of sustainable mobility are becoming a priority for many countries. Ukraine, which is at the stage of transformational changes, needs the adaptation of advanced world urban planning practices taking into account national characteristics and modern challenges, which necessitates a scientific understanding of modern trends in urban development, analysis of effective urban planning practices and the development of recommendations for their implementation in the conditions of Ukrainian cities.
