Recent advances in carbon nanofiber-based composites as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries
In the electrification revolution, development of advanced electrode materials for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) is a critical issue. Carbon nanofibers (CNFs), as one-dimensional carbonaceous materials, have been extensively used for improving the structural stability and rate performance of electrode materials in LIBs. Due to the mediocre lithium storage capacity, good mechanical and excellent electronic/ionic conductivity of CNFs, they are commonly used as a reinforcement in the preparation of composite electrode materials. Also, they can act as a stress buffer for accommodating the volume changes of the active anode materials during cycling. Here, a comprehensive review of the CNFs-based composites as the anodes for LIBs is presented which summarizes the main recent literature on the relation between the synthesis procedures of the composites, the obtained morphological/structural features and their electrochemical performance as the LIBs anode. Finally, the research gaps and the future perspectives are proposed.
