A 20. század, ami a bábákat szülésznővé tette
The study reviews how the midwifery profession has transformed over the 20th century, and how it has evolved from a traditional folk birth assistant to an institutionalised, medically-centred midwife role. It presents the social and health processes that led to the development of medicalised midwifery, pushing women's physical and mental needs into the background. However, in the 21st century, a change in perspective has begun: the role of midwives is expanding again, and the values of the midwifery model – naturalness, empathy, personal support – are once again coming to the fore. The article aims to highlight that obstetric care of the future can only be truly woman-centred if midwives can once again be not only professionals, but also accompanying midwives
