A bábaság története, szülés és anyaság a régi Magyarországon
This study presents the problem from midwifery students’ point of view at the Semmelweis University College of Health Sciences. The past of obstetrics and gynaecology and midwifery is an extremely rich and interesting story. There were always women with their ancient knowledge and experience, who, even at the cost of their lives, helped their fellow women as expectant mothers to cope with the adversities they encountered in their lives. Midwifery is one of the oldest professions. Assisting at delivery is a magical world to be admired every day in the obstetrical practice. The role models of a midwifery student in our days are those women who lived many, many years ago as the ancestors of today's midwives. This study presents the rituals and beliefs of specific groups of people throughout history to promote conception, care during pregnancy, and remember ethnomedicine around delivery and perinatal mortality. We can learn about famous women, from ancient sages to modern-day doctors, and finally, the history of Hungarian midwifery.
