А. AVTORKHANOV'S CRITICISM OF THE BOLSHEVISTIC POLICY OF JOURNALISM SYSTEM FORMATION IN THE AUTONOMOUS REGIONS OF THE NORTH CAUCASUS
The article has made the first attempt to introduce into scientific discourse the legacy of the famous researcher and critic of the Stalin’s totalitarian regime, Abdurakhman Avtorkhanov, concerning the development of journalism in the North Caucasus. And the triumph of the Soviet power in Russia became possible thanks to the support of the national regions in the former tsarist empire. One of the most important tools in the ideological support of the proletariat dictatorship was the local press, which was established under undivided control of the Bolshevistic partocracy. Propaganda of Marxist ideas among the highlanders of the North Caucasus was hindered due to a large number of multilingual ethnic groups living in the region, mass illiteracy, and a high degree of religiosity of the local population. However, the Bolshevistic government did not take into account these peculiarities and imposed a new regime using punitive measures. By means of specific examples, A. Avtorkhanov’s works demonstrate the methods used by the party leadership aimed at transforming the country's population into an obedient mass. He also presented solid evidence that the retaliatory policy had been not Stalin's invention, but it had been developed under Lenin immediately after the October Revolution of 1917. The political scientist also identified the contribution of local publications to the expansion of the “Red Terror” in the country. Avtorkhanov's analysis allows debunking the stereotypes created in the Soviet period about the widespread support of the highlanders of the Bolshevism policy to implement Lenin's program for building socialism.
