Influenza treatment in pediatrician practice: results of the Gryphon observational study
Influenza still holds the leading position in terms of severity of course, frequency of hospitalization, complications and mortality. The highest rates of influenza morbidity are registered annually in children aged 3–6 years and schoolchildren. The search for convenient forms of taking antiviral drugs by children remains relevant. Objective. To evaluate the clinical efficacy, tolerability, and convenience of the powder for suspension preparation (dosage: 12 mg/1 ml) of an etiotropic drug in the complex therapy of influenza in children 1–10 years old. Patients and methods. An observational study of the use of oseltamivir in the form of powder for suspension preparation (Nomides, “Pharmasintez”, Russia) in outpatient practice in children 1–10 years old (mean age 5.08 ± 2.52 years) was conducted. 1,409 children (50.53% boys, 49.47% girls) with influenza-like illness were included. Children received the drug according to their age and weight according to the drug instructions – for 5 days. We collected patient data: complaints, anamnesis, clinical status on the 1–2 day of the disease (visit 1) and on the 5 day of treatment (visit 2). In addition, when collecting feedback from the doctor and the patient, we assessed the satisfaction with the drug therapy based on the analysis of the following parameters: satisfaction of doctors and parents of patients at the first visit (visit 1) and on the 5th–7th day (visit 2) of using Nomides® drug for influenza therapy using Likert scale; acceptability of organoleptic properties (taste, shape) of Nomides® drug in suspension with sweet fruit flavor by small children. Mathematical and statistical processing of the obtained data was carried out using standard software packages Statistica (V7.0) and SPSS Statistics (V23.0). Results. Administration of Nomides® in the form of powder for suspension preparation in children aged from 1 to 10 years with influenza-like disease by the 5th day of therapy eliminates fever and symptoms of intoxication in 100% of children, reduces the proportion of children with auscultatory changes in the lungs on the background of the disease (from 2.96 to 1.96%, p < 0.001), reduces the frequency of cough (from 14.62 to 10.75%), stops virus excretion in 34.5%. Administration of Nomides® in the form of powder for suspension preparation to children 1–10 years old with influenza-like illness was safe and well tolerated by the vast majority of children. Conclusion. The obtained data allow us to speak about the clinical efficacy and safety of using the domestic drug Nomides® in dosage form powder for suspension in the therapy of influenza in children 1–10 years old. Key words: influenza, antiviral drug, children, oseltamivir, Nomides®
