Proposal of Lysobacter claricitrinus sp. nov., isolated from soil in Japan, and emended description of Lysobacter xanthus Kim et al. 2019

A bacterial strain designated as PAGU 2638T was isolated from a soil sample collected in Owariasahi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It was yellow-pigmented, Gram-negative, motile by gliding and aerobic with a rod-shaped morphology. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the strain belongs to the genus <i>Lysobacter</i> within the family <i>Lysobacteraceae</i>, showing high gene sequence similarity to <i>Lysobacter xanthus</i> U8T (98.1%), <i>Lysobacter terrigena</i> 17J7-1T (97.8%) and <i>Lysobacter humi</i> FJY8T (97.7%). The DNA G+C content was 67.8 mol%. The average nt identity (average nt identity values based on blast/average nt identity of orthologous genes based on USEARCH) values between strain PAGU 2638T and <i>L. xanthus</i> were 81.2% and 81.9%, respectively, while the digital DNA-DNA hybridization value was 24.4%. The major cellular fatty acids were C16 : 0 iso, summed feature 9 (C17 : 1 iso <i>ω</i>9<i>c</i>/C16 : 0 10-methyl) and C15 : 0 iso, and the predominant isoprenoid quinone was ubiquinone-8. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol. Based on phylogenetic, genotypic, phenotypic, biochemical and chemotaxonomic analyses, strain PAGU 2638T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus <i>Lysobacter</i>, for which the name <i>Lysobacter claricitrinus</i> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is PAGU 2638T (=NBRC 116966T=CCUG 78027T). Furthermore, we propose revisions to biochemical characteristics of the closely related species <i>L. xanthus</i>.
