EXPLORING GENERATIVE AI: KNOWLEDGE AND PERCEPTION AMONG BSAIS STUDENTS

This study investigates the perceptions and usability of Generative AI among Bachelor of Science in Accounting Information Systems (BSAIS) students at the State University of Northern Negros (SUNN). The primary aim was to explore students’ awareness, attitudes, and experiences with Generative AI technologies in educational contexts. Utilizing a quantitative-descriptive research design, data were collected from 90 students across different year levels through surveys employing a self-made questionnaire. Statistical tools were applied to interpret the data, including mean, standard deviation, and inferential analyses. The findings revealed a very high level of knowledge and positive perception of the advantages of Generative AI among the students, regardless of their demographic characteristics such as gender, age, and year level. However, there was also a significant recognition of the potential disadvantages, including concerns about ethical issues like cheating and plagiarism. The study concluded that while students demonstrate a strong inclination towards integrating Generative AI into their learning processes, there was a need to develop guidelines to ensure ethical and practical usage. These insights can inform educational strategies, technology development, and policy formulation, enhancing the implementation of AI tools in higher education and fostering digital literacy among students.
