Ammonium glycyrrhizinate in the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract in children
Glycyrrhizic acid (GA) is one of the most widely studied triterpene compounds. A huge number of published reports on GC identify its safety and a wide range of pharmacological activities, including important effects such as anti-inflammatory, immunoregulatory, antiviral, antimicrobial, expectorant and mucoregulatory actions. To date, the only oral preparation for pediatric practice, the pharmacological basis of which is the monoammonium salt of GA – ammonium glycyrrhizinate, is registered in the Russian Federation under the brand name “Reglisam” (CJSC “VIFITECH”, Russia). According to the obtained data of the conducted observational programs ammonium glycyrrhizinate appears to be an effective anti-inflammatory agent, which allows achieving important therapeutic goals in the treatment of various inflammatory and allergic diseases of the respiratory tract among pediatric patients, including during the epidemiological rise of acute respiratory infections. At present, positive clinical experience in this issue has been accumulated, which is reviewed and analyzed in this article. Key words: children, obstruction, obstructive bronchitis, bronchial asthma, ammonium glycyrrhizinate, glycyrrhizic acid
