Lettera d’emergenza per il bambino complesso: uno strumento prezioso e di facile attivazione

Children with medical complexity (CMC) are at increased risk for complications, medical errors, and poor outcomes, particularly during emergencies when time to intervene is limited and critical medical information is difficult to obtain. Emergency information forms (EIFs) have been proposed to provide abstract critical information for optimal care of CMC during emergencies. EIFs are standard forms recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics that provide pre-planned rapid response instructions, including medical conditions, medications, and care recommendations, for emergency providers. The paper describes the implementation and use of EIFs in a project called “Emergenza Bambini Fragili” operating in the province of Como (Italy) and aims to the diffusion of EIF utilization in Italy to improve a personalized management and care of CMC during emergencies.
