Synthesis and Performance of Single/Double‐Vinyl Terminated Silane‐Modified Polyacrylate Latex Pressure‐Sensitive Adhesives

ABSTRACT This study focused on improving the adhesion of polyacrylate latex pressure‐sensitive adhesives (PSAs) and aimed to address the post‐peel strength increase problems, poor temperature resistance, and adhesive residues of polyacrylate type PSAs. The obtained silane modified pressure‐sensitive adhesives, SPSAs and DPSAs, were synthesized by using single and double‐vinyl terminated silane (DY‐401 and DY‐402) as functional modifiers, respectively. The results showed that compared to conventional polyacrylic latex PSAs, both the obtained SPSAs and DPSAs exhibited significant improvements in water and heat resistance. Furthermore, compared with SPSAs, the results demonstrated that DPSAs displayed even more pronounced performance enhancements, and when the content of DY‐402 reached 5.0%, the heat resistance temperature of DPSAs was increased to 110°C, the water absorption rate at 72 h was reduced to 4.9%, and the post‐peel strength increase of 3 and 7 days were just 6.86% and 17.87%, respectively. This is attributed to the fact that double‐vinyl terminated silane forms an interpenetrating network structure to enhance the mechanical toughness and high‐temperature creep resistance of the PSAs; their silane end groups are condensed to form SiOSi bonds with the substrate to strengthen interfacial adhesion and resistance to moisture and heat aging.
