A Potential Geothermal Target Along a Strike-Slip Fault in The Rift System
Summary In this study, a structural restoration model of two adjacent, mispositioned basins controlled by listric bounding faults is built to investigate the potential of a geothermal target in such a geological setting by integrating surface well tops, 2D/3D seismic interpretations, 2D restoration, satellite imagery, surface geological maps, and 1D geothermal gradients. The assessment of the model revealed a deep-rooted strike-slip fault system at the detachment level that separates both basins. This strike-slip fault could act as a heat-fluid corridor, and can be targeted for geothermal explorations.
