Biomaterial-mediated modulation of tumor microenvironment and therapeutic sensitization
Biomaterials, a novel approach to drug delivery, increases drug stability and solubility, thereby enhancing the efficiency of drug delivery. Available drug delivery systems face several challenges in tumor treatment. In particular, the special tumor microenvironment (TME) limits the application of traditional drug delivery technologies. In recent years, increased attention has been paid to tumor suppression or elimination by altering TME. This review aimed to discuss the latest progress on the development of biological materials, their use in tumor immunomodulation, and challenges hindering their clinical application. • All drug delivery systems face many challenges in tumor treatment. • The special tumor microenvironment limits traditional drug delivery technologies. • This review discusses biological material development and clinical applications.
