Teacher Effectiveness of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Teachers in Relation to their Gender and Teaching Experience

This study examines the teacher effectiveness of educators in Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs), a network of model schools established to provide quality education to rural and semi-urban students in Odisha. Using a descriptive survey method and the Teacher Effectiveness Scale developed by Puri and Gakhar (2010), data were collected from 150 teachers across three districts. The analysis revealed that 94% of teachers demonstrated high effectiveness, with no participants falling below the average threshold. Gender was found to have no significant impact on teacher effectiveness, indicating parity between male and female educators. However, teaching experience showed a significant influence: teachers with less than four years of experience scored higher in effectiveness than their more experienced counterparts. These findings suggest that contextual factors such as school environment and mental well-being may play a critical role in shaping teacher performance. The study highlights the need for further research across broader geographies and additional variables to deepen understanding of teacher effectiveness in Indian schooling systems.

These findings suggest that contextual factors such as school environment and mental well-being may play a critical role in shaping teacher performance. The study highlights the need for further research across broader geographies and additional variables to deepen understanding of teacher effectiveness in Indian schooling systems.
