Fossvogur Multipurpose Bridge

Fossvogur bridge is a 270 m long steel bridge which forms an important link between Reykjavik and Kopavogur municipalities as part of the first phase in a new electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system for the Reykjavik capital area in Iceland. The project has involved a model-based design approach between multiple disciplines, including bridge design, road and traffic design, landscaping, drainage, electrics, lighting and geotechnical engineering.

The paper addresses the main architectural and structural features of the bridge and provides an overview of the model-based design approach in context of the bridge design and material usage optimization as well as in the context of model coordination between the different disciplines involved in the project.
