Williams Crossing in Tulsa, Oklahoma

A 440 meter long pedestrian bridge over the Arkansas River in Oklahoma is set to become an important symbol for the city of Tulsa. It is part of a park designed by landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates.

As a replacement for a bridge that was badly in need of repair, it connects the east and west sides of the river and links the park project ‘The Gathering Place’ to the surrounding neighborhoods. The bridge is designed exclusively for cyclists and pedestrians and is intended to offer an appealing quality of stay. The bridge deck provides 18ft of width and ample of space for additional seating opportunities along the bridge.

The semi-integral bridge was constructed with extremely slender arches made of weather-resistant steel of just 80mm thickness, making it the first of its kind in the US. At night, the bridge's arches, which are reflected in the river below, are illuminated enhancing the elegant structure.
