Enhancing Footbridge Design with a Novel Level of Information Need (LoIN) Framework

This paper explores the future of footbridge design, the importance of sustainability and the integration of appropriate digital tools into existing workflows. Central to this transformation are Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the Level of Information Need (LoIN) framework. These improve collaboration, data accuracy, and ensure stakeholders receive the right information at each project stage. This paper proposes a tailored LoIN matrix for bridge projects, integrating data types such as graphical, non graphical and alphanumeric. The matrix includes sustainability information such as Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), life span and maintenance requirements to enhance project deliverables. This approach supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), improving the environmental performance of footbridges while fostering innovation and collaboration among stakeholders.
