EFFECT OF CdCl2 CONCENTRATION ON THE STRUCTURE AND OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF CdO MONOCRYSTALLINE THIN FILMS FABRICATED THROUGH A CHEMICAL BATH DEPOSITION TECHNIQUE
This research successfully demonstrates the preparation of homogeneous, high-quality CdO films and feature granular nanoparticle sizes on glass substrates, utilizing the effective and cost-efficient chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique. This method stands out for its simplicity, safety, and affordability. Our synthesis involved depositing CdO thin films at various concentrations of CdCl (0.05, 0.07, and 0.1 M) at room temperature over 12 hours. We evaluated the structural and optical properties of the CdO thin films using X-ray diffraction and UV-visible spectroscopy.Structure studies confirm that they are polycrystalline with a rock salt cubic structure.Notably, the crystallite size (D) ranged from 18.49 nm to 37.77 nm, showing a decreasing trend as the concentration of CdCl increased. The texture coefficient (TC) also fell from 0.475 to 2.603, rising with higher CdCl concentrations, highlighting the potential for enhanced material characteristics.Optically, our studies revealed a significant relationship between absorbance spectra (A) and CdCl concentration, where absorbance increased with concentration. The absorption coefficients () were found to be 10 4 to 10 5 cm -1 , supporting the films' robust optical properties.Importantly, we determined the direct band gap energy to be 2.75, 2.92, and 2.99 eV, progressively increasing with CdCl concentration.Furthermore, particle sizes calculated using the Brus relation confirmed a trend where particle size decreases with increased CdCl concentration, ranging from 9.636 to 11.311 nm.This research paves the way for future advancements in optoelectronic applications.
