Coexistent primary pulmonary NUT carcinoma and tuberculosis in a young male: A rare association
Nuclear Protein in Testis (NUT) carcinoma is a highly aggressive, poorly differentiated carcinoma characterized by fusion of the NUT gene located on chromosome 15 with other genes.Primary pulmonary NUT carcinoma is sporadic, only a few cases have been reported in the literature. The prognosis of this cancer remains poor despite advances in molecular analysis and the development of newer therapeutic options. Our patient, diagnosed with Pulmonary NUT carcinoma and coexistent Tuberculosis infection (TB), passed away after 4 months of antituberculous and chemoradiotherapy.TB and malignancy have overlapping clinical and radiology features posing a diagnostic challenge.Early diagnosis and treatment is necessary as mortality rates are higher with coexistence of both the diseases.
