Sight
A boy asks an old blind woman if she can shed tears and she says her eyes fill with tears and empty her and says she can feel his shadow and he shuts his eyes at such an answer but you will never see me as I am he says and she says I can feel your bones and the space between us and she says I let others think blindness belongs to me alone but I can feel the darkness between them and myself and I can see your grief and feel your light and I see how it comforts you and she says I save my dreams and call out to them and give them names and I daydream she says and he asks her do birds cry and she gives him a pewter vial of her tears and tells him her name and he says over his shoulder no one cares who I am and says I call myself me.
