Rola psychoterapii poznawczo-behawioralnej w procesie leczenia zaburzeń depresyjnych u osób starszych

The aim of this analysis was to highlight the significance of psychotherapy in the treatment of depressive mood disorders in older adults, as well as to expand the knowledge of social educators and geragogists regarding the basic symptoms of depression. Depressive Disorders, according to the DSM-5 Classification by the American Psychiatric Association, include, among others: Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia), Substance/Medication-Induced Depressive Disorder, and Depressive Disorder Due to Another Medical Condition. The occurrence of Depressive Disorders causes clinically significant distress or impairment in functioning across various areas of life (personal, familial, social, and occupational). Therefore, depression in old age should not be analyzed without considering the individual and social aspects of an elderly person’s functioning. However, it is important to remember to consider its symptoms as a disease and not to misinterpret them as symptoms of the aging process. Bipolar and Related Disorders occur relatively rarely in old age; however, mild depression or depression with symptoms that do not form a complete syndrome is observed more frequently. Such diagnoses justify prioritizing psychotherapeutic interventions or potentially combining them with pharmacotherapy. CBT therapy is an effective way to support older people with depressive disorders in their recovery. Celem podjętej analizy było ukazanie znaczenia psychoterapii w procesie leczenia depresyjnych zaburzeń nastroju u osób starszych, a także poszerzenia wiedzy pedagogów społecznych i geragogów w zakresie podstawowych symptomów depresji. Zaburzenia depresyjne, zgodnie z klasyfikacją DSM-5 American Psychiatric Association, obejmują m.in.: dezorganizujące zaburzenie regulacji nastroju, większe zaburzenia depresyjne, uporczywe zaburzenie depresyjne (dystymia), wywołane substancją oraz spowodowane stanem ogólnomedycznym.
