Study on dynamic response and protective effectiveness of submunition protective tile structure under dual impact loads

Protective tiles are commonly used in clustered munitions for submunition protection due to their excellent impact resistance. Based on the loads experienced by protective tiles during explosive dispersion, this study employs Abaqus finite element software to analyze the dynamic response of protective tile structures under dual impact loads (explosive shock and kinetic energy impact). The results demonstrate that protective tiles effectively mitigate explosive shock loads through plastic deformation, delamination, and fiber fracture. Under kinetic impact, the structure absorbs energy via repeated oscillations, reducing the amplitude of kinetic loads. Calculations show that the protective tile reduces explosive shock waves by 31.7% and attenuates impact velocity amplitude by 37.9%.
