Numerical Simulation and Analytical Validation of the Planetary Gearbox

Planetary gearboxes significantly differ from fixed-axis gearboxes and therefore also exhibit unique behaviour, as they are able to transmit the greatest torque in the most compact form. Therefore, planetary gearboxes can be effectively used also in demanding applications, as they are very versatile and can handle higher torques, withstand shocks and vibrations and have compact construction. But due to the price are their application possibilities usually focused on the industrial applications. Research in this area is mainly focused on their fault detection and diagnostics. The main goal of this article is to create a simulation model of the planetary gearbox and to verify it using analytical calculations. The created numerical simulation model of the ZF 6HP260 gearbox is suitable for the future integration into the complex model of the drive and transmission mechanism. This complex numerical simulation model will serve for the optimization of revolutions, torques, fuel consumption and dynamic ratios for various input conditions and external influences, such for example various landscape gradients, surfaces, wind conditions or total weights of the vehicle. As a result, modified control logic optimizing dynamic, operational and economical parameters can be implemented into the truck vehicle.
