SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION, AND ANTIBACTERIAL EVALUATION OF N10-SUBSTITUTED ACRIDONE-BASED SCHIFF BASE ANALOGUES
Acridone was one of many new Schiff base derivatives whose bactericidal properties were evaluated.Although acridone (K1) was produced by cyclizing N-phenyl benzoic acid, Schiff base analogues (KS1-5) were created through condensation reactions using 4 chloroaniline and other aromatic aldehydes. The final products, acridone bearing Schiff base analogues (KF1 5) were synthesized by condensing these intermediates with acridone.Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (H-NMR), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and elemental analysis (CHN) were employed to characterize the synthesized products. These results suggest that the structural alteration of acridone through Schiff base linkage could enable the creation of antibiotics.Using the agar well diffusion method, antibacterial activity was evaluated against gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus) and gram negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) microorganisms. While some of the produced compounds exhibited little or no antibacterial action against Bacillus subtilis, KF1 and KF2 demonstrated considerable antibacterial activity. These results indicate that the development of antibacterial drugs may be possible through the structural alteration of acridone via
