Sensor Integrated Smart Composting Bin for Household Applications
This paper presents the design and development of a smart composting bin that integrates diverse range of sensors and various technologies to potentiate the composting process while also reducing the need for user-interaction throughout. The sensor-integrated smart composting bin features real-time monitoring of weight and other environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity and moisture, addition of a microbial starter culture, and the integration of blades, expedites the composting process and ensures high-quality, nutrient rich compost. Equipped with a user-friendly interface, the system’s design minimizes user-mediated adjustments through automated process control. Its adaptability to varying infrastructure and environmental conditions, allows the system to function in both urban and rural environments, thereby increasing the access of the system to a wide demographic. Additionally, the system’s function is designed to reduce the production of carbon based gasses. By minimizing organic waste, improving soil health and quantifiable reduction in net carbon emissions, the smart composting bin promotes sustainable waste management and eco-conscious behavior. This paper highlights its technological innovations and potential social impact in creating a more sustainable society
