A Framework for Smart-Village for Sustainable Groundwater Management using Digital Twin
Groundwater overextraction and climate variability are critical issues in India, particularly in rural areas where water availability directly affects agriculture and livelihoods. The competition for groundwater has caused conflicts, worsened by the increase in the number of borewells on small farms. New methods like participatory approaches are being introduced to manage these issues. Traditional methods and management are seeing a transition to emerging technologies like IoT, artificial intelligence (AI), GIS, and remote sensing. This paper proposes a novel framework that integrates AI, GIS, and digital twin technology to improve groundwater sustainability in Satara district, Maharashtra. This conceptual model integrates various sources of data, GIS based hydrogeological analysis, predictive modeling, simulation, and community engagement to device a transparent, accessible to all stakeholders method to address village level water management conflicts and challenges. As a smart water management framework, it provides a scalable foundation for the smart villages, in a semi-arid region.
