Enhancing Privacy in Digital Forensics through Cryptographic Techniques
Digital forensics often involves the collection and analysis of data that may compromise the privacy of suspects, victims and unrelated third parties. Traditional forensic models typically emphasize evidence gathering and storage but lack sufficient mechanisms to safeguard sensitive and irrelevant information. Various privacy-preserving approaches, including both cryptographic and non-cryptographic techniques, have been proposed; however, these methods are not fully optimized for addressing privacy concerns throughout the investigative process. This survey paper examines the role of cryptographic techniques, such as encryption and access control, in preserving data confidentiality and integrity while ensuring privacy during digital forensic investigations. These techniques are explored in terms of their ability to protect sensitive information, prevent unauthorized access, and support efficient investigation processes
