Intelligent Waste Classifier (IWC) System Using Object Detection and Deep Learning
Waste management is a critical aspect of modern urban planning, with significant implications for environmental sustainability and public health. Waste is frequently burned or discarded incorrectly, which results in pollution and increase in landfill use. These unsafe disposal practices lead harmful emissions, contamination and environmental degradation. To address these challenges, we propose an Intelligent Waste Classification System using object detection and deep learning technologies. This system aims to automate the identification and classification of waste materials, by dividing them into various categories based on the type of waste and suggesting appropriate ways to dispose the waste by a category-to-category basis. This system aims to thereby improving the efficiency and accuracy of waste management processes by decreasing the amount of incorrectly disposed waste and encouraging correct treatment of the waste before disposing it. In doing so, the system will contribute to creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious waste disposal system, supporting public health and environmental preservation efforts in urban areas.
