Face Recognition and Navigation Aid for the Visually Impaired

The visually impaired user group is beset with extensive navigation, object identification, and social interaction problems, even when assistive technology is available. Current solutions prove inadequate in meeting these needs effectively through a thorough, integrated framework. This paper suggests a cutting-edge assistive system that would promote independence and safety for visually impaired users. By combining real-time navigation, object detection, person recognition, and distance sensing, the system takes advantage of state-of-the-art technologies in computer vision and deep learning. Real-time navigation is enabled with live map support, while high-level object detection algorithms detect and describe objects nearby. Facial recognition capabilities recognize familiar faces, ensuring maximum social contact and security with 95% accuracy. Additionally, depth sensing methods sense distance to nearby objects and assist in navigating through obstacles. This system seeks to provide a stable, seamless solution that maximizes the contribution to visual impairment quality of life by allowing visually impaired individuals to navigate in their environment more confidently and independently.
